    Island Dolphin Care Road Trip

Thank you to all our members who joined us for the road trip down to Key Largo today. Hope you all enjoyed the day learning about the dolphins. Beautiful weather, fun top down drive and good friends. What more can you ask for on a wonderful South Florida day. Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there!

    Best Of Luck

I want to take the opportunity to wish Karl & Carol and Doug & Tammy the very best of luck on their impending moves out of the area in the coming weeks. They have been steadfast, loyal members of our club for many years and have always gone the extra mile to help out when called upon. Beyond that, their friendships have become very special to many of us and I know we will all be saddened to see them leave. Hopefully this isn’t farewell but till we meet again somewhere down the road. Best of luck on your new endeavors as you travel down the pathway of life. Take care and God bless.

Long time active members are a rarity and a blessing to groups like ours. Kudos and great appreciation for all the effort and participation.

I have suggested many events to attend and about 99% of the time, no one attends. This past Saturday, I invited members to come as my guest to the U of M donor family picnic at Lion Country Safari. It was a nice long ride to get there. The cost was $15.00 which included park admission, parking, and all-you-can eat for lunch if you arrived there by 12:30PM. We had a great day at the park, the animals were awake and doing all sorts of things, saw baby giraffe’s, and then went out to dinner at the Texas Longhorn restaurant and had a really good meal. Only 2 people from the Miata Club came. In November, when I hosted the reception at Anne Kolb nature center, I did a lot to prepare for a nice buffet dinner and not even one representative came from the club. So please don’t say we aren’t trying to schedule things. I know not everyone can come to all events and John shouldn’t have been held accountable for the low turn-out in February. He can’t control who comes and who doesn’t. Now on March 10th, there is a Fun, Furry, Festival for Abandoned Pet Rescue. It is 12N to 4PM. I will be there. So if anyone wants to stop by before you go to the Miata meeting, you are very welcome to come. Rosalyn

I appreciate your comments, Rosalyn. Unfortunately, you may be a victim of scheduling. I know at least one of your events was on the same day as a scheduled Miata club event. And again the FFFestival you mention above is in conflict with the monthly meeting. Bad timing? Maybe more club members would attend if your suggestions were considered the “official” non-meeting event for the month. In the past, we had two events: the monthly meeting, and a “road trip” event. I don’t recall exactly, but I don’t remember any of your suggestions being the “road trip” event. Maybe it doesn’t need to be that formal, but two events per month is more than enough for Tammy and me. I am also a member of another car club, and we both have numerous interests, usually limiting us to less than one Miata club event per month.

Karl also posted an animal rescue event. Although we are a car club, anyone is welcome to post a somewhat related event if club members might reasonably be interested.

Some of the most successful events require a bit of extra organizing. Don’t be discouraged by the process. If you have an idea, see if others are interested, but don’t cross the line to being frustrated if you don’t get the expected response. If three people attend a nice event, that’s just fine.

Perhaps the club would like to participate in the parade celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in Wilton Manors. The date is June 16th. If you would like more details, contact me via email.

    Personnal Commentary

This commentary in no way is approved or reflects the feelings of the club presidents or hierarchy. It is my opinion only. It is very sad to me that in a time of the year when comradery should be at it’s highest levels because of the holiday season, that we could only muster 3 cars to join in the parade yesterday. I know it must be upsetting to those of us other than myself who strive to make this a great club day in and day out to only have 3 cars out of 150 plus members take the time to join in the holiday spirit and show up. Hopefully more folks will decide to join us next year. Hope everyone enjoys their holidays.

We’ve had a much better presence at this event in the past. I know it’s a busy holiday season, and we all have to make choices about how we schedule our time and resources. This event is different from a simple road trip. It reflects on our group’s standing and reputation in the community. Let’s brainstorm on how to better approach this event, how to instill some enthusiasm and how to help each other decorate the cars. The club has a long history of participating in children’s parades. If the decision is made to continue this tradition, it must with with broad support of the members and we must respect that commitment. If not, let’s look for other avenues of engagement.

Sorry you feel that way Mark. Maybe it’s not a statement on our holiday spirit. Maybe it’s an indication that club members simply don’t think that particular event is worth attending. It’s possible you are projecting your own enthusiasm for this event onto the membership as a whole. It’s entirely possible the event itself is not as attractive to the membership as you may otherwise think. Actions speak loudly. And yes, I am one of the 147 members who chose not to participate.

Since all the commentary is from people who didn’t show up, I as one of the 3 cars that did had a great time! The club was therre with signs and decorations and while more would have been better it was fine. Will do it again next year. Many thanks to Lou for getting it set up. See you all the Christmas dinner next weekend; Jim

I love this event. It is a true “hometown parade.” I was not able to attend this year due to my schedule, not because I did not want to be there. I think like all events – you put them out there. Those who want to will go and others who choose not to will participate in something else instead. The parade is great publicity for the club and unlike the parade we used to participate in Key West, a lot easier to get to! No need for negativity! Think positive and do the things you like to do? We have a lot of events going on and not everyone can do all of them! Thank you to those who did go and participate and so glad you had fun! Did you go to Fritz and Franz again afterwards?

    August Monthly Meeting

We had a very nice turnout yesterday for our August Monthly meeting. We welcomed two new members, Russell and David, who just purchased new 2018 ND’s with Cherry Red soft tops. Beautiful cars. Hope you have many miles of smiles with them.

A lot of exciting road trips on the horizon so please check the events tab regularly.

Active Members on the Email List

We currently have 173 registered members on our web site, of which about 80 regularly open and read the email messages several times per month. From time to time, we eliminate users who have moved on or no longer wish to remain active members.

If, for any reason at all, you wish to be removed from the membership roles, please let us know so we can stop sending messages your way.

On the other hand, if you wish to remain an active member of the South Florida Miata Club, please make the effort to open the newsletter email, click on a link, visit the web site from time to time, interact with your fellow members, suggest a road trip or otherwise let us know that you remain interested.

I think we can surmise that anyone who has not opened or read a message, clicked on a link or attended a meeting for the past six months, is no longer interested in being an active member. And, it’s easy for anyone to re-register and re-activate their membership if they change their mind.

So, this is just a reminder to stay active, read the newsletter, click on a link, come to meetings, let us know you care — or not. Thank you.

    Sebring Trip

Had a great time at Sebring! Betsy had a blast riding with Doug and I had the experience of a life time riding with ChinTrackDays driver in his Subaru. What a highly skilled driver hammering in and out of the turns! Thanks Doug for setting up many of the days events!
