Top Down Season is around the corner

South Florida Miata Club - Road ripThere is a touch of cool in the breeze these days, and October could bring a change in weather with the change of seasons. We love driving with the top down when it’s pleasant and it makes us truly appreciated the convertible aspect of our cars.

it’s also time to consider another season of upcoming road trips and gatherings. Take a few moments to think about places you’re like to visit and road trip adventures you’d like to experience, and share them here with your fellow members on the web site and our Facebook page.

A big thanks to Mark for organizing our trip to Vizcaya and a equally big thanks to Gary for leading us to all of our destinations call him Leader Of The Pack. It was wet but cool. We still had a great time.

Old friends, new friends having fun. It was very wet! We are planning to do this trip again January 2020 so we can get a good look at the gardens.

A link to all the pictures I took.

The experience can include a kiss, feeding the dolphins, learning about behavior management and training as well as learning about each animal’s personality. Participants can ask the animal care staff questions while on the dock/platform and then will also have the opportunity to ask the tour guide questions after their session with the animal care staff.

Stomp In The Swamp this weekend

                    The Everglades is calling.

Miata enthusiasts know the Everglades Seafood Festival in February — a riot of music, big crowds and great seafood specialties in a fairground atmosphere at Everglades City.

This weekend, we’re back to Everglades City for the annual Serge’s Stomp In The Swamp jamboree event at Tastes Of The Everglades, starting at noon Saturday. https://www.facebook.com/SergeStomp/

Serge Storm's Stomp In The Swamp with Tim Dorsey

There is plenty of indoor seating, plus an equally giant outdoor deck and tiki bar overlooking the water and mangroves in the Ten Thousand Islands region. Continuing the tradition of mayhem and fellowship, featuring a full lineup of live music from Pete Gallagher and the Outlaws of Florida Folk and other close friends.

Plan your road trip to arrive before noon to avoid traffic.

                      Strawberry Road Trip in March

There’s plenty of time to plan ahead for the annual Florida Strawberry Festival on Saturday, March 2 in Plant City, Florida. It’s a great opportunity to meet up with Miata friends around the state for fun, food and friendship.

                      http://www.southfloridamiatas.com/events/florida-strawberry-festival-march-2/

                      Florida Strawberry Festival

The festival is open from 10am to 10pm and admission is $10.

Hotel rooms are already sold out in Plant City, but there are rooms available a dozen miles away in Lakeland if drivers want to gather on Friday evening ahead of the festival.

Check your calendars to see if your schedule permits.

Strawberry food items include Fresh Strawberries, World-Famous Strawberry Shortcake, Strawberry Shortcake Milkshake, Assorted Strawberry Coated Nuts, Strawberry Milkshakes, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, Strawberry Jam, Strawberry Sandwiches, Strawberry Peanut Brittle, Strawberry Pie and Strawberry Cheesecake, Bowl of Berries (Sugar-free available), Strawberry Pizza, Strawberry Cobbler, Strawberry Parfait, Deep Fried Strawberry Cheese Burst, Strawberry Crepes, Strawberry Lemonade, Strawberry Cream Puffs, Strawberry Kettle Korn, Strawberry Fritters, The Sweetheart Chocolate Strawberry Donut, The Strawberry Orie, The Chocoberry Orie, Strawberry Fudge and more.

what are the recommendations for staying over the weekend?? what towns/ are near the site of the event???

                      • Robert Burr 4:43pm on Monday, October 15, 2018 Permalink | Log in to Reply

I found some rooms available in Lakeland, only 12 miles away for the festival fairgrounds. Search for hotels in Lakeland, Bartow, Mulberry, Brandon, Winter Haven, Auburndale, Lake Alfred, Polk City, Crystal Springs, Zephyrhills. All are close.

                        https://www.google.com/maps/search/motel/@28.0125404,-82.1592773,11.67z/data=!4m4!2m3!5m2!5m1!1s2019-03-01

Because the festival draws 500k people, rooms are already booked in the region, six months ahead.

anyone expressed interest in staying at any one location?? where is the venue for the event?? don’t want to drive too much further than the place hosting the festival.

The event page contains these details. 303 North Lemon Street in Plant City from 10am to 10pm, the admission is $10. It will be difficult for one club member to reserve all the hotel rooms for all of our friends, but anyone can easily use Expedia, Booking.com, Hotels.com, or even Google Maps, as in the link above, to find a suitable hotel room in a nearby location that matches their own budget. I found a good deal ($68) at Best Motel Lakeland, twelve miles away. 863-683-5961.
